Haydn: Cello Concerto in C Major
Rediscovered masterpiece.
Haydn composed the concerto in the 1760s for cellist Joseph Weigl who played in Haydn's Esterhazy-orchestra. The work dissappeared and was not discovered until 1961 when it was performed by master-cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. The concerto is on every cellist's repertoire and is very popular. This performance was recorded at the orchestra's 250-years jubilee gala 15 October 2015.
