Sibelius: Symphony No. 7
Recorded live in Grieghallen in December 2020.
Jean Sibelius’s seventh and final symphony is considered by many to be his finest work in the genre, composed during a time when he was struggling with personal problems and alcohol abuse. It is the only of his symphonies to consist of one continuous movement. In fact, it took him a decade to complete the symphony. Sketches in his composition book show that melodic fragments began to fall into place as early as 1914, but were not completed until 1924.
