Stravinsky: Rite of Spring

Stravinsky’s score caused a scandal when it was first performed in 1913 and remains one of the most original and thrilling orchestral works ever conceived. This musical picture of a pagan ritual, in which a girl dances herself to death in sacrifice, is known for its brutal rhythmic drive. But it contains music of gorgeous stillness too, clothed in shimmering orchestral beauty the likes of which has never been matched.
