Stravinsky: Funeral Song
Rediscovered a hundred years after its premiere in 1909.
The Norwegian premiere of Stravinsky’s Funeral Song – a moving tribute to the composer’s teacher Rimsky-Korsakov that lay undiscovered for over a century. The work was only performed once, 17 January 1909 under a memorial concert for Rimsky-Korsakov in St. Petersburg. It was rediscovered in 2015, at the St. Petersburg conservatory, and performed for the second time the year after, 2 December 2016. Valery Gergiev conducted the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra.
