Grieg: From Peer Gynt
Grieg's popular music to Ibsen's dramatic poem.
In January1874 Edvard Grieg received a letter from Henrik Ibsen, who wants Grieg to write incidental music to his dramatic poem about Peer Gynt. Grieg starts working, but it is very demanding due to the material itself, but also because of the orchestra and the singers. The play is premiered in February 1876 at Christiania Theater (Oslo was at that time called Christiania). Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra has recorded the incidental music to Peer Gynt on cd with Ole Christian Ruud. (BIS).
Live recording from The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
