Mendelssohn: The Hebrides
One of Mendelssohn's most popular works.
Felix Mendelssohn's concert ouverture The Hebrides was composed in 1830 and revised in 1832. The piece was inspired by one of his trips to the British Isles, specifically an excursion to the Scottish island of Staffa, with its sea cave known as Fingal's Cave. It is said that he immediately jotted down the opening theme for the composition after seeing the island.
