Epic passion in Music!

In 1827, the then 23 years old Hector Berlioz saw Shakespeare's Hamlet in Paris. The Irish actress Harriet Smithson in the role of Ophelia. Berlioz was smitten and wrote her impassioned letters, but never received a reply. Love found its outlet in music - Symphonie fantastique, which portrays an episode in an artist's life, an artist continuously haunted by the image of the perfect, unattainable woman.
