Walton's first symphony

A symphonic eruption of dark, sensual passion!

William Walton wanted to blow his British contemporaries out of the symphonic water with his first symphony. And, according to many, he did just that. The first three movements was premiered in 1934, and the complete symphony the year after. Walton later admitted that much of the intensity came from deep within himself.

Tom Service writes that this is the most searing and emotional British symphony so far composed. Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra under Andrew Litton performed the symphony at their BBC Proms concert in 2007.
