Edvard Grieg composed the A Minor Concerto when he was 25 years old, in 1868. The concerto is one of his most well known works and is one of the most famous piano concertos in the world. It was began in Denmark, where Grieg stayed for the summer. The concerto was premiered in Denmark 3. april 1869 with Edmund Neupert as soloist. The concert was a great success, but Grieg himself did not have the opportunity to be there for the performance. Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra has performed the concerto more than 250 times, made several cd-recordings of the work, and played it on many international tours.
